Box Score GENEVA, Ill. - Marian University men's hockey (6-11-3, 1-9-2-1 NCHA) earned a point after falling in overtime to No. 15 Aurora 2-1.
The only goals in regulation came in the first 8:30 of the game opening with senior Troy Ring lighting the lamp at the 5:57 mark. Freshman Daunte Fortner earned an assist on the play. The Spartans would then find their equalizer at the 8:30 mark.
Both goaltenders stood on their heads for the remainder of regulation as neither team could find the back of the net. In overtime, each had their opportunities and Aurora would be held scoreless on the only power-play chance of the extra frame. Then with just 23.6 seconds remaining, the Spartans would light the lamp to earn the extra point.
The Sabre penalty kill was able to hold Aurora scoreless on nine extra-man opportunities.
Marian finished with a slight edge in shots at 44-43 with senior Parker Colley finishing with six shots. Junior Colby Muise (5-9-3) took the tough-luck loss between the pipes after stopping 41 shots.
Marian returns home for a two-game series against Finlandia opening Friday, February 4 for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
