EVANSTON, Ill. - Marian University ACHA D3 (0-4-0) fell 3-2 in overtime and 9-6 in a road series at Northwestern.
Both defenses came to play as Northwestern only held a 1-0 lead after two periods of play. After the Wildcats built a two-goal lead,
Connor Bending scored on a power play to cut the Marian lead in half.Â
Serge Simard then tied the game and was able to force overtime with just 2:23 left to play. Northwestern was able to hold off the Sabres in the extra period scoring to earn the win. Sam Gasienca was able to make 40 saves as the Sabres were outshot 43-34 for the game.
Game two was the exact opposite as both offenses were able to score with ease. Northwestren was able to build a 6-1 lead into the second period with a Simard goal in the first serving as the lone Sabre goal. Marian was able to bounce back scoring four unanswered goals to trail just 6-5 with 19:10 left in the game.Â
Ryan Boose, Lindeman, and Simard all scored in the second period with the Lindeman score coming on a power play. Jackson Sweeney then scored 50 seconds into the third to cut the Northwestern lead down to one. The Wildcats would outscore Marian 3-1 the rest of the way with
Cole Hales-Main lighting the lamp for Marian. Amanda Sincere made 44 saves in her first appearance of the season, and the Sabres were outshot 53-42 in the defeat.
Marian travels to Maryville for another two-game road series Oct. 21-22.
