ST. LOUIS - Marian University field hockey (5-6, 1-3 SAA) opened a weekend against NCAA Division II opponents with a 5-1 loss to Maryville.
Maryville opened the scoring with a goal 11:55 in but the Sabres were able to keep their deficit at 1-0 going into the half. The Sabres were able to outshoot the Saints 5-4 in the third quarter but Maryville was able to expand their lead. The Saints opened the period with a pair of goals before freshman
Eva Houtackers scored on a penalty stroke to put the game at 3-1 heading into the fourth. A pair of goals from Maryville in the final stanza would put the final at 5-1.

Brenna Abrahamson made eight saves in goal.
