Marian women's basketball defeats Mount Mary for first win

MILWAUKEE - Marian University women's basketball (1-3, 0-0 NACC) earned its first win of the season with a 63-54 road win at Mount Mary.

  • Both offenses had a slow start but Marian was able to build a narrow 15-14 lead after the conclusion of the first quarter.
  • Neither team could find an edge in the second quarter with each squad scoring 17 points to give the Sabres a 32-31 lead at the break.
  • The Sabres were able to pull away in the third stanza hitting three three-pointers and holding Mount Mary to just 1-of-13 (.077) from the field.  The Blue Angels scored the first three points of the quarter before Marian went on a 16-3 run to close out the quarter.
  • Mount Mary outscored Marian in the final 10 minutes by a 17-15 margin but the Sabres were able to hold off an MMU comeback.

  • The Sabres held a 56-39 in the rebound battle and held the Blue Angels to just 18-of-66 (.273) shooting from the field.
