Marian women's basketball wins second straight to open NACC play

ROCKFORD, Ill. - Marian University women's basketball (2-3, 1-0 NACC) dominated in the fourth quarter to defeat Rockford 56-49 in the first game of NACC play.

  • Rockford was able to get out to a strong start taking a 10-4 lead to open the game.  The Regents held onto this lead and led 16-11 after the first quarter.
  • Marian was able to bounce back and controlled play in the second quarter.  The Sabres opened the quarter with a 16-8 spurt to take a 27-24 lead with 1:39 until half.
  • The Sabres were able to go into halftime with a 29-26 lead.
  • Marian scored the first four points of the third quarter to build the lead out to seven points.
  • Rockford was able to bounce back and outscored Marian 14-7 the rest of the quarter to tie the game at 40-40 going into the fourth quarter.
  • Marian immediately scored the first 12 points of the fourth quarter to take a 52-40 lead with just 3:35 left to play.
  • This hot start to the fourth proved to be enough as Marian held on to a 56-49 win.
  • The Sabres defense held Rockford to 2-of-21 (.095) shooting in the final quarter and didn't allow a Regent three-pointer on 10 attempts.
  • Marian also went 8-of-9 (.889) from the charity stripe in the final quarter.
