Special teams filled game has Sabre NCAA men's hockey fall to Trine

FOND DU LAC - Marian University NCAA men's hockey (3-7-0, 1-3-1-0 NCHA) fell to Trine 6-3 to open the final series of the first half.

  • The first period was mostly quiet until Trine was able to score at the 16:28 mark to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Marian answered when senior Jack Sampson scored a power-play goal with an assist to fellow senior Blake Kleiner.
  • Trine then answered scoring four unanswered goals to close out the period with a 5-1 lead.  Three of the Thunder goals came on the power play.
  • The Sabres didn't go away quietly with junior Ty Mosimann scoring at the 3:03 mark with an assist to freshman Adam Nobes.
  • Kleiner then netted a power-play goal to trim the Marian deficit to 5-3.  Sampson and sophomore Jaymes Knee each earned an assist.
  • Trine was able to end the rally scoring with 6:53 left to put the final at 6-3.
