Sabre women's hockey stunned by final-minute goal

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's hockey (6-14-2, 3-7-0-3 NCHA) had a tough time finding the back of the net in a 2-1 loss to Finlandia.

Freshman Sydney Schipper was able to open the scoring at the 7:45 mark with an assist from junior McKenna Krosch.  The goal capped off a period that saw Marian outshoot Finlandia 16-7.  The Lions tied the game with 4:30 left in the second period to send the game into the third knotted at 1-1.  Then with just 31 seconds remaining in the game, Finlandia would light the lamp once more to claim the 2-1 comeback win.

The Sabres finished with an edge in shots by a 27-22 margin led by junior Brooke Anderson who had five shots.  Sophomore Kayla Kolpitcke (6-14-2) was able to make 20 saves between the pipes for Marian.

Marian closes out the series with the Lions tomorrow, Saturday, February 12, for a 4 p.m. puck drop at home.
