Marian men's hockey drops wild shootout to No. 7 SNC to conclude season

DE PERE, Wis. - Marian University men's hockey (10-14-3, 5-10-2-1 NCHA) was eliminated from the NCHA Harris Cup Playoffs after falling to No. 7 St. Norbert 8-6.

Marian had a slow start being outshot by the Green Knights and allowing a pair of goals in the opening period.  SNC was able to build their lead out to 3-0 after a short-handed goal at the 7:21 mark.  Marian was then able to get on the scoreboard during that same power play with sophomore Mason Richey scoring just 49 seconds later.  Senior Parker Colley and junior Blake Kleiner each earned an assist on the play.  St. Norbert had a response, however, scoring just 27 seconds later to go ahead 4-1 headed into the final period.

The final period then became a shootout with the two squads combining for nine total goals.  Kleiner opened the barrage at the 3:39 mark with assists to freshman Alex Rondeau and junior Jack Sampson.  After an SNC power-play goal, Marian scored just 18 seconds later with sophomore Anthony Bilka lighting the lamp, assists to Sampson and senior Yuri Chernichko.  A power-play goal from Cherkowski came next, assist to senior Blaine Caton as the squads traded goals for the final 10 minutes. 

Marian would manage to find themselves down just one goal on two occasions following a pair of short-handed goals.  Senior Troy Ring scored the first with sophomore Ty Mosimann scoring the second goal with the penalty-kill unit on the ice.  Rondeau and Richey each assisted the Mosimann goal.  A late empty-net goal from St. Norbert would ice the game and put the final at 8-6.

St. Norbert held a 44-34 advantage in shots for the game with the two squads combining for five power-play goals and three short-handed tallies.  Junior Colby Muise (9-13-3) made 36 saves in goal for the Sabres.
