Box Score FOND DU LAC - Marian University men's hockey (7-12-3, 2-10-2-1 NCHA) scored a pair of short-handed goals and a pair of power-play goals to defeat Finlandia 4-0.
The Sabres needed much time to open the scoring with sophomore Austin Nault converting a breakaway opportunity for a short-handed goal just 2:13 into the game. Marian then scored at the 9:15 mark of the second period with sophomore Ty Mosimann netting a power-play goal. Nault and senior Parker Colley each earned an assist. Then just 5:05 later, the exact same trio converted another power-play score to put Marian ahead 3-0. Senior Nathan Walker closed out the scoring with an empty-net and short-handed goal in the final minute of the third period.
The Sabre penalty kill held the Lions scoreless on eight power plays including the final 3:42 of the game. Part of that final kill Marian was outnumbered 6-to-4 with an empty net on the Finlandia end of the ice.
Marian held a 36-30 advantage in shots with junior Colby Muise (6-11-3) posting his first shutout of the season. Colley finished the game with a game-high six shots on goal.
Marian closes out the series with Finlandia tomorrow, Saturday, February 5, with the puck dropping at 4 p.m.
