Box Score 2 DUBUQUE, Iowa - Marian University men's volleyball (10-2, 1-0 NACC) played in a pair of sweeps to close out the Loras Tournament falling to Fontbonne and defeating Augustana (Ill.).
The Sabres had a slow start to the day as Fontbonne was able to defeat Marian 25-11 in the opening set of the first match. Marian led 13-9 in the second set before the Griffins scored nine straight points to take a five-point lead. This run allowed Fontbonne to cruise to a 25-20 win. The Griffins then opened the third set with a 12-4 advantage and finished the match with a 25-21 victory.
Junior Cam Muller and sophomore Derek Wills each had eight kills to lead the offense. Muller also had five total blocks, three being solo, while sophomore Aaron Velasco had a team-high seven digs.
The Marian offense was able to bounce back in the second match of the day defeating Augustana (Ill.) 25-13, 25-20, and 25-19. Wills led the squad with 10 kills, and Muller posted nine kills off of a .389 hitting percentage. Velasco once again led the back row with 12 digs, while freshman Keanu Ouranitsas-Hayes had four service aces.
Marian returns home to host Lakeland Tuesday, February 8 for a 7 p.m. non-conference game.
