Box Score 2 CHICAGO - Marian University men's volleyball (20-6, 6-2 NACC) was defeated by North Park in five sets and Cal Lutheran in four sets at a triangular.
The Sabres started the day well defeating North Park 25-23 and 25-22 but dropped the next three sets 25-21, 25-14, and 15-8. The opening set saw the Sabres trailing 22-21 with Marian scoring four of the next five points to earn the win. The second set played nearly identical with Marian and North Park being tied at 19-19. Another strong finish saw the Sabres close out the set with a 6-3 run.
Marian trailed just 20-18 in the third set looking for a sweep but the Vikings were able to hold off the Sabres to force a fourth set. The final two sets were all North Park as the Marian offense could only manage 12 kills between the pair of sets.
Sophomore Derek Wills led the way with a team-high 15 kills and nine digs. Fellow sophomore Aaron Velasco also had nine digs in the back row.
The Marian offense continued to have a tough time against Cal Lutheran falling 25-17, 21-25, 25-21, and 25-11. The second set saw Marian jump out to a fast start leading 18-11 as the Sabres hit .225 with 15 kills. Junior Cam Muller paced the offense hitting .346 with 11 kills, and Velasco had 16 digs to tie a career-best for a single match. Freshman Keanu Ouranitsas-Hayes had four total blocks with three being solo blocks.
Marian returns home to host Edgewood Saturday, March 26 for a 5 p.m. first serve.
