CLERMONT, Fla. - Marian University softball (1-2, 0-0 NACC) earned their first victory of the season defeating Northland 8-0 in six innings.

Marian was able to start out the game fast scoring three runs in the first inning.  Freshman Kerena Wood opened the scoring drawing a bases loaded walk before sophomore Evelynn Spaeth did the same in the very next plate appearance.  The next plate appearance had senior Cailie Pliner also draw a free pass with the bases loaded.

Pliner was able to bring in junior Emalee Depa in th third to push the Marian advantage to 4-0.  Then in the fourth, junior Julia Corona hit a sacrifice fly before a double from Depa brought in another run to put the Sabres ahead 6-0.  Junior Andrea Miller ended the game with a bang hitting a two-run homer in a pinch-hit appearance to end the game in six innings.

Depa (1-1) dominated in the circle going 5.0 innings allowing just two hits with 10 punch outs.  Freshman Kaitlyn Van De Hey then closed out the game without allowing a hit.

Sophomore Katelyn Matenaer and Depa each had multiple hits in the victory, while three different Sabres drew multiple walks.  Miller and Pliner each had two runs driven with Pliner not recording an official at bat.

Marian was also scheduled to play Muskingum but that game was postponed, a make-up date and time for that game has not been announced.  The Sabres are scheduled to take on Roanoke and Illinois College tomorrow, Monday, March 7.
