Box Score 2 FOND DU LAC - Marian University softball (11-16, 6-10 NACC) fell 3-2 in eight innings and 2-1 against Edgewood in NACC action.
Nobody had multiple hits on either team in game one with the Eagles squeaking by in extras. Junior Emalee Depa got caught in a rundown long enough for senior Melanie Weigel to score to open the scoring in the bottom of the second. Edgewood managed to tie the game in the fourth and took a 2-1 lead in the fifth. This lead didn't last long as sophomore Katelyn Matenaer tied the game in the next half inning with a bases-loaded walk. Edgewood would then hit back-to-back doubles with two outs in the eighth to take game one.
Depa (8-7) suffered the loss allowing just eight hits and two earned runs over 8.0 innings of work.
Edgewood jumped out to the first lead of game two plating a run in the third and fourth. Marian rallied in the sixth with freshman Kerena Wood driving in a run, but this would be all the Sabres could manage.
Weigel went 2-for-3 to pace the offense, while senior Cailie Pliner tossed 3.0 innings allowing just one hit in relief.
Marian opens a busy final week of the regular season hosting Concordia Chicago Wednesday, April 27 for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
