MILWAUKEE - Marian University softball (14-17, 9-11 NACC) defeated No. 16 MSOE 1-0 before falling to the Raiders in game two 4-3.

Marian managed just two hits in the first game but that was all the Sabres needed as junior Emalee Depa tossed her second shutout of the season.  The first time through the order Marian was unable to get a runner on base before sophomore Katelyn Matenaer recorded a hit to open the fourth.  After a strikeout to open the sixth, Matenaer recorded her second hit of the game before freshman Kerena Wood drew a walk. An error then allowed Matenaer to score from second for what was the only run of the game.

Depa (10-7) allowed just three hits to the nationally-ranked Raiders in the shutout victory.

Game two was just as tight but the Sabres would fall in a one-run game.  MSOE opened with a run in the second before Marian broke through for three runs in the next half inning.  Sophomore Evelynn Spaeth hit a double to open the scoring for the inning before senior Melanie Weigel drove in a run with a single.  Junior Kaley Ludvigsen ended the spurt with a run-producing single.

MSOE had an answer in the bottom half of the third scoring the tying runs.  The Raiders then retook the lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth.

Matenaer paced the offense once again going 4-for-4 with a run scored.  Depa tossed another 2.0 scoreless innings to close out the game in relief.

Marian hits the road for Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday, April 30 for a noon doubleheader in NACC action.
