FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's soccer (1-2-1, 0-0-0 NACC) scored with just 1:07 remaining in regulation to earn a 1-1 tie with UW-Oshkosh.
It was a rainy day with a slick turf at Smith Field and both defenses took advantage. UW-Oshkosh was able to outshoot the Sabres 7-4 in the opening half but Marian had more shots on frame by a 3-2 margin. The Titans had a quality opportunity just 55 seconds in but senior
Megan Harbeck was able to step in to stop a potential goal before fellow junior
Amy Birner made a save just seconds later. Marian controlled play for the final 20 minutes but neither team was able to find the score sheet.
The Titans came out firing after the break sending four shots on frame and earning a corner kick in the first 10 minutes of play. UW-Oshkosh broke the scoreless tie when a turnover led the Titans to a goal at the 61:00 mark. Marian was able to keep the Titans off the board through a couple more opportunities, but similarly to the first half, Marian put together a strong finish. The final 10 minutes saw the Sabres send five shots on frame with one serving as the equalizer. A one-touch pass from senior
Ashley Welk presented sophomore
Abby Larson an opportunity to shoot that was initially saved before senior
Meghan Batzner buried the rebound for her fourth goal of the season. The goal came with just 1:07 left on the clock and led to the 1-1 draw.
Shots went in favor of UWO for the game by a 17-12 margin but each team had nine shots on goal. Batzner led the Sabres with four of those shots and all of her attempts were on frame. Birner (0-1-1) made seven saves in goal for Marian.
Marian opens NACC play at home Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. against Wisconsin Lutheran.
