ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Marian University women's volleyball (4-9, 1-0 NACC) was defeated in four sets by Augustana (Ill.) before sweeping Monmouth to finish the Viking Classic 3-1.
The start of the day was a little slow for the Sabres as Marian was defeated 25-9 and 25-20 by the Vikings. Marian bounced back in the third set recording 10 kills with a .259 hitting percentage to take the set 25-18. Augustana (Ill.) was able to end any thought of a comeback, however, defeating Marian 25-13 in the fourth. Junior
Kaitlyn Merrill narrowly missed a double-double recording nine kills with 10 digs, while senior
Andrea Miller had 11 digs.
Marian bounced back in a big way defeating Monmouth 25-22, 25-16, and 25-20. The Sabres had at least 13 kills in all three sets and posted 19 kills in the opener. After narrowly missing a double-double, Merrill earned her third double-double of the season, second of the invite, with 14 kills and 10 digs. Miller posted another 11 digs and junior
Reagan Jasica led both squads with 12 digs.Â
Merrill went on to be named to the Viking Invite All-Tournament team after recording 51 kills over 15 sets for a 3.4 kills per set average.Â
Marian hits the road for Edgewood Wednesday, Sept. 21 for a 7 p.m. first serve.
