ATLANTA - Junior
Brenna Abrahamson and freshman
Allyson Nichols of Marian University field hockey have been named the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) student-athletes of the week.
Abrahamson (Minot, N.D.) was nearly unbeatable in goal for the Sabres leading Marian to two wins to begin the field hockey program. She allowed just two goals against CUW in a 3-2 victory stopping nine shots. Abrahamson followed that up with the first shutout in program history stopping all six shots she saw in a 2-0 home win versus Earlham. Along with her 15 total saves for the week, she posted an .882 save percentage.
Nichols (Little Falls, N.Y.) sparked the Marian offense recording three goals with an assist for the week. She opened her collegiate career with a big performance against CUW scoring all three Marian goals. Her final goal came on a penalty stroke chance in the final minute. Nichols then sparked the Marian offense against Earlham assisting the first ever field hockey goal at Smith Field. She recorded 11 shots on the week with nine being on frame.
Marian takes on Centre Sunday, September 18 at 11 a.m. in the first conference game in program history.
