Sabre women's basketball falters late against CUC

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's basketball (4-11, 3-5 NACC) led for the majority of the game but fell to Concordia Chicago 68-61.

  • Both offenses were dominating to open the game leading to an 11-11 tie.
  • The Sabres were able to build a six-point lead at 23-17 with a 12-6 run in the final 4:47 of the first quarter.
  • Marian led for the entire second quarter building its lead to as large as eight and CUC cutting their deficit down to as small as three.
  • The back-and-forth action saw Marian take a 37-32 advantage going into the half.
  • The two teams traded baskets for most of the third quarter leading to a 49-41 Marian lead with 3:12 left in the third.
  • The Cougars ended the quarter with four unanswered points to build momentum going into the fourth.
  • CUC was able to score another five unanswered points to open the fourth quarter and build a 50-49 lead with 8:31 to play.
  • Marian battled back to take a 57-56 lead with 2:37 left to play before CUC had another strong finish.
  • The Cougars would close out the game on a 12-4 run to finish with a 68-61 win.

  • The Sabres outscored Concordia Chicago 28-22 in the paint and 20-11 in points off turnovers.

Freshman Kiara Williams posted her third double-double in the last four games scoring 18 points with 11 rebounds and four assists. Senior Paris Harris scored 17 points and had a pair of rebounds. Sophomore Lexi Brakebush added 11 points and had six rebounds.  She was also able to draw six Cougar fouls.
