Marian NCAA men's hockey closes first half with sweep of Cobbers

FOND DU LAC - Marian University NCAA men's hockey (5-8-0, 2-6-0-0 NCHA) defeated Concordia College 5-3 to finish the first half with a sweep.

  • The Cobbers struck first at the 4:21 mark but Marian had a quick response just 2:48 later.
  • Freshman Caden Carlson was able to light the lamp on the power play to tie the game with assists from sophomore Alex Enegren and senior Alex Rondeau.
  • Senior Mason Richey then gave Marian its first lead with 9:56 left in the period with assists from senior Jordan Simoneau and Enegren.
  • This 2-1 lead held heading into the first intermission and most of the second period.
  • Sophomore Noah Pickart then put Marian ahead 3-1 with 5:37 left in the second period.  Junior Daunte Fortner and Rondeau each earned an assist.
  • Just 3:14 following the Pickart goal, Carlson, C. netted his second of the game to put Marian ahead 4-1 going into the third.  Freshman Nolan Flint and junior Nicholas Cherkowski each earned helpers on the score.
  • The third period saw Concordia net a pair of power-play goals to only trail 4-3 with 8:19 on the clock.
  • Junior Jaymes Knee closed out the game, however, scoring with just 2:21 to play.  Fortner along with senior Nolan Kadachuk aided the score that put the final at 5-3.

  • Each team had 38 shots on goal in the game with Marian holding a 28-21 edge after two periods.
  • Another penalty-filled game, Marian went 1-for-5 on the power play and allowed two goals on seven chances on the penalty kill.
  • Face-offs were fairly even with the Cobbers holding a slim 38-36 advantage.
  • Marian evens the all-time series with the win at 4-4-1, and the Sabres improve to 3-2-0 in non-conference action.

Freshman Caden Carlson had his first multi-goal game in the win and has scored in the last three games.
Sophomore Alex Enegren had his first multi-point effort as a Sabre with a pair of assists.
Senior Aaron Brunn (5-7-0) made 35 saves to give himself four straight performances with at least 31 stops.
