Lexi Brakebush of Marian University women's basketball have been named Academic All-District by the organization College Sports Communicators (CSC).
The Academic All-America program run by CSC is considered one of the most prestigious awards as it is one of the few awards that combines academics and athletics. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average at their current institution. The student-athlete must also be at least a sophomore and have been attending their current institution for a full calendar year.Â
Gouin (Hartford, Wis.) has led the Marian offense nearly all season and has a cumulative grade point average of 3.85 while majoring in business administration. He is currently on pace to become just the second Sabre to average 20.0 points per game in program history scoring 481 points so far this season. Gouin has had 14 games this season scoring at least 20 points and became the 21st member of the 1,000-point club at Marian. He also ranks fourth in the NACC for assists with 93.Â
Brakebush (Oxford, Wis.) stepped up in her second season as a Sabre and has a perfect 4.0 grade point average in pursuit of a business administration degree. She started in all 25 games this season for the Sabres averaging 8.0 points per game with 37 assists and 24 steals. Brakebush finished with double-digit points in four of her final five games with a season high of 16 points coming against MSOE at home. She narrowly missed a double-double in that win over the Raiders grabbing nine rebounds.
