Lange Lifts Marian Baseball to Split at Benedictine

LISLE, Ill. - Marian University baseball (9-8, 2-2 NACC) salvaged a spit at Benedictine with a 7-2 win after a 10-3 defeat.

GAME 1
  • Both starters were able to get out to strong starts with Benedictine scoring just one run in the second and two runs in the fourth.
  • The Eagles extended their lead out to 4-0 going into the bottom of the sixth when Marian finally was able to strike.
  • Marian was able to cut its deficit down to one with a three-run inning. 
  • Graduate student Jonah Landowski, sophomore Gus Walker, and junior Albert Kiszka all drove in runs in the inning.
  • Benedictine was able to get into the Sabre bullpen, however, scoring six runs over the last three innings to pull away for a 10-3 win.
GAME 2
  • Another game where pitching dominated followed with Marian pulling away with one big inning to salvage a split.
  • The Sabres were able to strike first in the second when junior Tyler Blum drove in a run.
  • The Eagles tied the game in the top half of the fifth only to have Kiszka give Marian the lead right back in the bottom half with a run-producing single.
  • A home run for Benedictine tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning.
  • Marian then broke through for five runs in the eighth inning.
  • The rally began with a bases-loaded walk from Landowski to put Marian ahead 3-2.
  • After a wild pitch the Sabre lead at 4-2, Kiszka drove in a run with a single.
  • Junior Caleb Dohms ended the inning with a sacrifice fly to end the scoring.

GAME 1
Sophomore Andrew Schroeder had the lone multi-hit game for Marian going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Junior Logan Rademan scored a run and had a hit to go with a walk.
Senior Bryca Lovisa (2-1) went 6.0 innings allowing just five hits and striking out four.

GAME 2
Junior Logan Lange (2-2) tossed the third complete game of his career striking out eight and allowing just six hits.
Graduate student Jonah Landowski was 1-for-1 with three walks, a run scored, and a run driven in.
Junior Albert Kiszka went 2-for-5 (.400) with two runs driven in.
