Depa, Schroeder Earn Final Sabre of the Month Honors for 2022-23

FOND DU LAC - Senior Emalee Depa of Marian University softball and junior Andrew Schroeder of Marian University baseball have been named the Sabres of the Month for March.

Depa (Mount Prospect, Ill.) closed out her career on a high note leading Marian to the NACC Tournament.  She started in five games over the final weeks of the season boasting a 1.58 earned run average and .275 opponent batting average over 35.1 innings of work.  Depa opened the month with a complete game win over SNC tossing 6.0 innings allowing just one unearned run.  The very next day, she went 6.2 innings against Concordia Chicago allowing just two runs to clinch the Sabre a spot in the NACC Tournament.  Depa started both games of the NACC Tournament for Marian tossing 12.2 innings and recording a 1.66 earned run average to go with a .250 opponent batting average.  She allowed just one earned run in the opener of the tournament against Dominican over 7.0 innings of work with four strikeouts.  At the plate, she was also 2-for-6 (.333) with a double and a walk at the NACC Tournament.  Depa closes out her Marian career in the all-time records eighth for games started (56), innings pitched (370.0), strikeouts (195) and wins (34).

Schroeder (Wausaukee, Wis.) had a breakout final week of the season leading the Marian offense.  He hit .571 over four games after going 8-for-14 with a double and a home run.  Schroeder also drove in a run and scored four times.  He had multiple hits in three of the four games he played in with a pair of three-hit games.  In the opener of the CUC doubleheader, Schroeder was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and hit a game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.  He then went 5-for-7 (.714) in the twin bill with MSOE.  Schroeder hit a double in the opener of the doubleheader before going 3-for-3 with a hit by pitch in the second game.  The strong finish lifted his batting average to .323 on the season, second on the squad, while his .527 slugging percentage was good for tops on the squad.
