Lexington, Ky. - Marian University women's volleyball (3-3, 0-0 NACC) defeated Marietta in a thrilling five set match while falling to No. 16 Transylvania in straight sets on day one of the Transylvania Invite.

MARIAN VS. MARIETTA / 25-20, 12-25, 25-22, 20-25, 16-14
- The Sabres were able to take command early with a strong start from the offense as Marian had 16 kills and hit .306 in set one.Â
- Marietta answered in set two with a commanding win hitting .714 and holding the Sabres offense to eight kills on .107 hitting.
- The third set saw back-and-fourth action with the Sabres coming out on the winning end after a 8-5 run to close out the set after being tied at 17-17.
- Marietta had a solid fourth set from the service line with seven aces to the Sabres two.Â
- The Sabres offense was efficient in the fifth set hitting .368 with zero attacking errors and to take set five 16-14.
MARIAN VS. No. 16 TRANSYLVANIA / 25-13, 25-13, 25-15
- Set one saw the Sabres and Pioneers going back and fourth with Transylvania holding the 10-7 advantage.Â
- The Pioneers closed out set one with a 15-6 run.
- Transylvania kept the momentum going starting set two with a 9-3 run.
- The Sabres fought back into the match with a 9-6 run to bring them within four.
- The Pioneers took advantage of a couple errors by Marian on their way to a set two victory.
- Transylvania kept the momentum to take set three.

- Marietta held a 58-53 edge in kills but the Sabres had the advantage hitting .221 to Mariettas .212.
- The Sabres defense shined with 60 digs and a season high five blocks.
- Marian takes the first ever match between the two programs.Â
MARIAN VS. #16 TRANSYLVANIA
- The Sabres came out swinging in the first set with 11 kills on .450 hitting but couldn't slow down the Pioneers.
- Marian falls to 0-1 against Transylvania all time.Â
