Busy home stretch for Sabre men's basketball opens against CUC

FOND DU LAC - One run proved to be the difference as Marian University men's basketball (2-14, 2-8 NACC) fell to Concordia Chicago to open a stretch of three home games in five days.

  • Concordia Chicago opened the game with a 13-12 lead before Marian used a 15-6 to lead 27-19 with 11:11 left in the half.
  • The Cougars gradually chipped away at the lead and took a seven-point lead with 12 seconds left.
  • A buzzer beater from senior Tavaris McCullough put the Sabres into the locker room on a high note and only trailing 44-40.
  • Marian had a strong start to the second half was able to quickly tie the game at 48-48.
  • Concordia Chicago would retake the lead and used a 22-8 run to build an 18-point advantage.
  • The Sabres quickly brought this deficit down to single-digits with a 13-2 run but ran out of time to complete the comeback.

  • Marian finished 29-of-57 (.509) from the field and 14-of-28 (.500) from beyond the arc.
  • Concordia Chicago went 32-of-58 (.552) shooting and 6-of-15 (.400) on three-point attempts.
  • The Sabres committed 33 turnovers in the defeat and were outscored 49-22 in points off of turnovers.
  • The Cougars also finished with a 39-15 advantage in fast break points.
  • Marian out rebounded CUC 36-21 and outscored the Cougars 14-2 in second chance points.
  • The Sabres fall to 20-16 all-time against Concordia Chicago and have dropped three of the last four match-ups.

Freshman Sam Gingras led Marian with 19 points off the bench after hitting five three-pointers.
Junior JeanLuc Wilson added 17 points and narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds.  He also had six assists.
Headshot default Junior Mahlik Hall chipped in 15 points with six boards and two steals.
