Marian field hockey defeated in overtime by Sewanee

FOND DU LAC - Marian University field hockey (5-8, 1-2 CFHC) had a two-goal lead but fell to Sewanee by a 3-2 final in overtime.

  • The Sabres were able to beat the buzzer opening the scoring in the final seconds of the first quarter.
  • Junior Allyson Nichols was able to tip in her second goal of the weekend with assists to fellow juniors Merel Nagelkerke and Jikke Biemans.
  • Using that momentum, sophomore Angelene Castro was able to find the back of the cage at teh 23:46 mark with an assist to Nichols.
  • This proved to be all the scoring as Marian took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
  • Sewanee was able to strike first in the second scoring 5:39 into the third quarter.
  • The Tigers then put in a buzzer beater of their own to tie the game in the final seconds of the third stanza.
  • After a scoreless fourth quarter, Marian was headed to overtime for the first time this season.
  • The Tigers had all of the shots in the overtime and scored the game winner 5:38 in to extra time.

  • Each team had four shots in the first half and Sewanee outshot Marian 19-0 in the second half.
  • The Tigers held a 12-4 advantage for shots on goal.
  • Sewanee also had a 14-2 edge for penalty corners.
  • Marian committed only 60 fouls to 63 for the Tigers.
  • The Tigers sweep the regular season series against Marian after defeating the Sabres 1-0 last week.

Sophomore Emilee Clarey (3-8) made nine saves in the tough-luck loss.
