Quick strikes lead Marian women's hockey past Lawrence

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's ice hockey (4-7 -0, 2-4-0-0 NCHA) finished the first half of the season with a non-conference 2-1 win over Lawrence.

  • Marian took control of the game early outshooting Lawrence 19-7 in the opening period.
  • It was the Vikings, however, who scored first with 8:01 to play.
  • An unassisted goal from senior Jadyn Gorski tied the game with 3:46 left in the stanza, her third of the year.
  • Then just 49 seconds later, sophomore Kaitlyn Quinn was able to light the lamp for the first time in her career to give the Sabres a lead.
  • Freshman Piper Miller and senior Sydney Schipper each assisted the goal that put the Sabres ahead 2-1 after the first.
  • Both defenses got strong as the game went along with scoring chances coming at a premium the remainder of the way.
  • Marian was able to hold Lawrence to just four shots in goal in the final period to seal the 2-1 win.

  • Marian held a hefty 36-19 advantage in shots for the game and outshot the Vikings in all three periods.
  • The Sabres also finished with a 34-16 edge for face-offs.
  • Neither side had a power-play goal with Marian having two chances and Lawrence just one.
  • Marian is now 8-2-1 all-time against Lawrence and snapped a two-game losing skid with the win.

Senior Jadyn Gorski scored her team-leading third goal of the season.
Freshman Sydney Magnuson (4-7-0) stopped 18 of the shots she saw.
