WESTFIELD, Ind. - Marian University baseball (1-1, 0-0 NACC) defeated Albion 5-3 before falling to Manchester 6-3 at the Crossroads Crossover.
Â
GAME 1
- Marian had a runner in scoring position in four of the first five innings but it was Albion who was able to build a 3-0 lead after five innings.
- The Sabres were finally able to push some runs across taking advantage of a pair of runners in the top of the sixth.
- Senior Robbie Knorr would bring home a pair of runs off of one of the Albion errors before a sacrifice fly from fellow senior Brady Zackrison tied the game at 3-3.
- Both offenses went quiet for the next innings before Marian took its first lead of the game in the top of the ninth.
- A pinch-hit walk from senior Andrew Schroeder opened the frame and helped set the tone for a triple from senior Logan Rademann to drive in two runs. This put the Sabres ahead 5-3.
- The Britons were able to get the tying run into scoring position before senior Connor Medvecz closed the door with the sixth save of his career, tying the Marian all-time record.
- This was the first meeting between the two programs.
GAME 2
- It was another slow start for the Sabres against Manchester but this time a late rally came up short.
- The Spartans scored the first four runs of the game and led 4-0 going into the sixth inning.
- A big frame from the Sabres quickly turned the tide opening with a run-producing single from graduate student Dylan Pease.
- Sophomore Sam Wiederholt then drew a bases-loaded walk followed by a run-producing single from senior Gus Walker that cut the Marian deficit to 4-3.
- This would be all Marian could muster as the offense would go silent over the last three innings and the Spartans would ice the game two runs in the eighth.
- Marian is now 2-2 all-time against Manchester with all four match-ups coming at a neutral location.
