Sabre women's hockey drops defensive battle to CUW

MEQUON, Wis. - Marian University women's hockey (7-13-1, 4-8-1-0 NCHA) clinched a spot in the NCHA Slaats Cup despite a 3-1 loss at CUW.

The opening period looked similar to the opener of the series with neither team finding the back of the net.
The Falcons would open the scoring 3:39 into the second period before junior Dayna Jones netted her first goal of the season at the 10:59 mark to tie the game.
Seniors Michaela Powers and Hannah Cunha each earned an assist on the goal.
The defensive battle continued deep into the third period where CUW would net the go ahead goal with 4:39 to play.
An empty net goal with 1:05 left would seal the 3-1 victory for the Falcons.

Marian outshot CUW 14-6 in the final period but the Falcons had a 41-36 advantage for the game.
Each team came up empty on three power-play chances.
The Falcons held a 38-25 advantage on face offs.
Despite the loss, Marian has clinched a spot in the NCHA Slaats Cup.

	Senior Kayla Kolpitcke (3-6-1) stopped 38 saves for a second straight game making 16 stops in the first and another 18 in the second.
	Junior Dayna Jones scored her first goal of the season.
	Senior Hannah Cunha recorded her fifth assist of the season.
