Marian women's volleyball defeats Ripon in four sets

RIPON, Wis. - Marian University women's volleyball (7-9, 1-1 NACC) dropped the opening set 25-20, but rallied to win the next three sets and defeat Ripon 25-18, 25-20, 25-22.

  • The two squads went back-and-forth in the opening set with Ripon leading 20-19 before pulling away from the Sabres with a four straight points.
  • The Red Hawks had a 17-16 lead in the second set but Marian fook over the rest of the way evening the sets with a 9-1 spurt.
  • After a 12-12 start to the third, Marian took the first sizeable lead with an 8-3 run.
  • This would be an advantage Marian held the remainder of the way as the two squads traded points.
  • The fourth set followed a similar script with the set opening to a 15-15 dead lock.
  • Marian was able to take the lead for good with a 6-2 run, which included three unanswered points to end the spurt.
  • The Red Hawks brought the deficit down to one twice, but Marian finished the match scoring three of the final four points.

  • Marian finished with a 49-37 edge in kills and 56-51 advantage for digs.
  • The Sabre defense held the Red Hawks to .090 hitting, while the offense had at least 11 kills in all four sets.
  • From the service line, Marian had 10 aces.
  • Marian secures a split in the season series with Ripon after falling to the Red Hawks in five sets in the opening weekend of the season.
  • The Sabres are now 18-32 all-time against the Red Hawks and have won three of the last four meetings.

Sophomore Ryanne Jasica had her fifth double-double of the year with a match-high 14 kills and 13 digs.
Freshman Kaylie Engebose finished with 38 assists, four service aces and six digs.
Sophomore Olivia Buol also had a match-high 14 kills and hit .258.
