Five sets continue to stump Sabre women's volleyball

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's volleyball (1-20, 0-7 NACC) fell to Benedictine in five sets with scores of 25-18, 15-25, 25-23, 22-25, and 15-11.

  • The match opened with Benedictine leading 8-3 which proved to be the difference as the two sides nearly swapped points the remainder of the set.
  • Marian had a strong response opening the second set with a 7-1 advantage.
  • The Sabres managed to score six unanswered points shortly after to lead 16-6 and cruise to the set win.
  • The third set opened going back-and-forth but a mini-spurt from the Eagles put Benedictine ahead 19-13.
  • Marian then went on an 8-1 run to take a 21-20 edge.
  • The Eagles responded themselves scoring four straight points to rebound and take a 2-1 lead.
  • The fourth set saw Benedictine race out to an 8-3 edge before Marian went on a 9-1 run to lead 12-9.
  • The momentum continued to swing each way with Benedictine eventually leading 22-21.
  • Marian had a strong finish using three kills and an Eagle attacking error to force a fifth set.
  • The two squads traded the opening six points before Benedictine scored five straight to lead 8-3.
  • The Sabres managed to cut the deficit down to 13-10 but the two sides traded points the rest of the way.

Senior Natalie Dempze-Enkro had a monster match going for 10 kills, 12 digs, and six service aces.
Sophomore Kaylie Engebose posted 21 assists to go with 11 digs.
