- Concordia Chicago came out firing taking an early 13-3 lead to open the match.
- Marian trimmed the deficit down to five but a 6-0 spurt gave CUC the first set.
- The second set was similar as the Cougars led 10-9 before going on a 12-4 run to cruise to a 2-0 lead.
- Marian found its grove in the third scoring 14 straight points at one point to keep the match alive.
- The Cougars had a comfy 17-13 lead to start the fourth but Marian battled back.
- CUC would lead 20-18, but Marian scored seven of the next eight points to force a fifth set.
- The fifth set opened with CUC managing an early 7-5 lead.
- Just as was the case in the third and fourth, Marian scored the next six points to lead 11-7.
- The Cougars scored the next two points only for Marian to score four straight to clinch the reverse sweep.

- Marian had a 49-48 advantage for kills, while the Cougars led in digs 88-85.
- The Sabres had 11 service aces and took advantage of 10 Cougar service errors.
- This is the first five-set win for Marian in six tries.
- Marian is now 9-16 all-time against CUC with this being the second five-set win over the last five meetings.
