FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's ice hockey (1-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHA) scored four goals in the third period to defeat Beloit 5-2 in its first game of the season.
- The opening period was a defensive battle as the two sides combined for only eight shots.
- A breakaway opportunity saw senior Rebecca Larson open the scoring 6:46 into the second period, assist to junior Kaitlyn Quinn.
- Beloit had an answer with just 1:21 left in the period to send the game into the final period knotted at 1-1.
- Marian wasted no time retaking the lead when freshman Yazmine Gonzalez lit the lamp 3:30 into the period.
- Sophomore Zowie Hunter and junior Ella Spies assisted the goal.
- Freshman Angela Barrass padded the lead at the 8:42 mark redirecting a shot from senior Caitlin Traver to put Marian ahead 3-1.
- Spies then skated past the defense and found the back of the net with 9:07 left to play.
- The Buccaneers battled back scoring a power-play goal with 4:11 left to put the game at 4-2.
- Senior Jennarae Bateman turned a turnover into a goal in the final seconds to settle the final at 5-2.
- Marian had a 21-13 advantage for shots on goal with 11 shots coming in the final period.
- The Sabres were 0-for-5 on the power play, and Beloit finished 1-for-3.
- Marian also had 27 wins on face-offs to only 25 for Beloit.
- This was the first game in program history for the Buccaneers.
- This is the first season-opening win for Marian since the 2015-16 campaign.
