First half lead slips away from Marian women's basketball

MEQUON, Wis. - Marian University women's basketball (0-6, 0-2 NACC) led through two quarters, but faltered late in a 90-65 loss at Concordia Wisconsin.

  • Senior Chelsea King started the game by scoring the Sabres' first five points, but the Falcons responded with eight unanswered. 
  • King finished the first quarter with 11 points as the Sabres trailed 24-22. 
  • Freshman Holly Goodwin's steal-and-score gave the Sabres their first lead of the night with 6:25 left in the second quarter. 
  • An and-one layup by sophomore Taycee Schwanke extended the Sabres' lead to seven.
  • This marked the Sabres' first time leading at halftime this season, taking a 43-40 lead into the break. 
  • After leading by one, the Falcons went on a 16-0 run midway through the third quarter. The Sabres trailed 68-55 entering the fourth. 
  • Concordia held the Sabres to one field goal in the final five minutes, as the Falcons concluded with a 90-65 victory.

  • The Sabres' 65 points marked their highest scoring output since the season opener. 
  • The Falcons had 41 of their points come off of Sabre turnovers.
  • Marian shot an efficient 16-for-29 (.551) from the field in the first half. 
  • Shooting dipped in the second half to to 6-for-22 (.273), including 0-for-9 (.000) from three-point range. 
  • The Falcons experienced the opposite, shooting 21-for-37 (.568) in the second half after going 16-for-39 (.410) in the first half.
  • The Sabres trail the Falcons all-time holding a 14-54 record in the series.

Senior Chelsea King had a season-high 20 points, including 18 in the first half. 
Sophomore Taycee Schwanke posted her second double-digit scoring game of the season, finishing with 10 points on perfect 3-for-3 shooting. 
Sophomore Emily Eastham added nine points and six rebounds.
