GREENWOOD, Ind. - Senior
Derek Wills of the Marian University men's volleyball program has been named CSC Academic All-District for the third time in his career.
The CSC Academic All-American program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their efforts both in competition and in the classroom. To be eligible, a student-athlete must compete in 90 percent of their team's games, be a key starter or reserve on their team, and attain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5. They must also hold at least sophomore standing at their institution.
Wills (Dubuque, Iowa) closes out a spectacular career at Marian with three CSC Academic All-District awards and five All-NACC selections.  He paced the Sabre offense once again ranking seventh in the NACC for kills per set at 3.43 and eighth in the conference for points per set at 3.74. Wills had double-digit kills in 17 matches during the regular season with at least 20 kills twice. Showing his versatility, Wills also had double-digit digs in four matches with each performance leading to a double-double. He was especially strong down the final stretch averaging 4.11 kills per set over the final five matches and a 19-kill performance against CUC to clinch Marian a spot in the NACC Tournament. Wills finishes his career as the program leader for kills, second for kills per set, total points and service aces, third for digs, and sixth for total blocks. Â
