Gordillo lifts Marian women's soccer to season-opening win

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's soccer (1-0-0, 0-0-0 NACC) used a 78th-minute goal from junior Emily Gordillo to defeat Augustana (Ill.) 1-0 in its first game of the season.

Augustana (Ill.) had the first shot of the game but Marian controlled play for the majority of the opening half.
Despite this, the Vikings were able to keep Marian off the scoreboard and the game knotted at 0-0 at halftime.
The second half saw similar play where Marian managed to maintain possession.
The Sabres would make three substitutions in the 75th minute before Gordillo tucked a shot inside the upper corner at the 77:27 mark to open the scoring.
Marian was able to hold the Vikings to only one shot the rest of the way in a season-opening win.

Marian finished with a 15-5 edge in shots and 8-3 advantage for shots on goal.
The Sabres also had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Marian committed 12 fouls to 5 for Augustana (Ill.) with each squad being booked for one yellow card.
This is the first victory in the season opener for the Sabres since 2019, a 4-0 win over Beloit at the Fond du Lac Soccer Complex.
Marian is now 1-1 all-time against the Vikings with this being the first meeting since 2014 and at Smith Field.

	Junior Emily Gordillo scored the lone goal of the game and had two shots on goal.
	Freshman Samantha Smith (1-0-0) stopped all three shots she faced to earn a win in her first collegiate game.
