GENEVA, Ill. - Marian University women's ice hockey (7-7-0, 4-5-0 NCHA) defeated Aurora 2-1 in overtime in a second straight overtime game.
- The opening period was as even as it could be with nothing decided after 20 minutes of action.
- The Sabres were able to strike first when junior Kaitlyn Quinn scored without an assist with 4:22 left in the second period.
- The Marian lead held until 6:46 remained in the third when the Spartans scored a 5-on-3 power-play goal.
- Marian had three shots in the final 1:08 of the game but headed to overtime for the third time this season.
- The Sabres dominated most of the overtime session and eventually scored the game-winner with 44.7 seconds left.
- Junior Ella Spies was the Sabre who lit the lamp with assists to fellow juniors Jessica Tadevich and Olivia Church-Sowinski.
- Offense was at a premium with Marian holding a slim 24-21 advantage in shots.
- The Sabres also had an edge in face-offs by a 33-30 clip.
- Marian was scoreless on two power plays, while the penalty kill limited Aurora to one goal on five opportunities.
- The Sabres improve to 3-0-0 this season in games that go to overtime.
- Marian is now 5-12-1 all-time against Aurora having won 2-1 in overtime for a second straight time.
