ANGOLA, Ind. - Marian University NCAA men's ice hockey (9-15-2, 8-10-0 NCHA) dropped its opening game of the NCHA Harris Cup Quarterfinals to No. 11/12 Trine 4-1.

- The Thunder needed just 43 seconds to open the scoring as Marian trailed early.
- Trine then netted a power-play goal at the 12:21 mark to take a 2-0 lead into the second period.
- Sophomore Edison Weeks cut the Marian deficit in half scoring at the 8:28 mark of the second, assists to sophomore Dayne Tews and junior Hayden Tuba.
- Trine was able to build its cushion back to two goals with 2:53 left in the second period.
- The third period looked to go scoreless until Trine netted a second power-play goal with just one second remaining.

- Trine had a 33-15 advantage for shots in the game.
- Marian had 34 face-off wins to 41 for Trine.
- The Sabres went scoreless on three power-play chances, while Trine was 2-for-4.
- Marian is now 4-15-0 all-time against Trine with the Thunder taking the last six meetings.
- The Sabres have also dropped nine straight postseason games.
- Marian will need a victory in game two to force a mini-game which would be played immediately after.
