Marian women's basketball closes season with 73-49 victory over Rockford

FOND DU LAC - Seniors Brianna Guelig, Chelsea King, and Ryleigh Woodson played in their final game as Sabres as Marian University women's basketball (4-21, 4-14 NACC) outscored Rockford 23-9 in the fourth quarter en route to a dominant 73-49 win.

  • Marian's three seniors made the start today, with Guelig making an early impact by grabbing three rebounds in the first 2:30. 
  • It was a slow first quarter for both sides, as the teams combined for 8-of-28 (.285) shooting and seven turnovers in the quarter. 
  • The energy shifted in the second quarter as the Sabres jumped out on an 11-4 run, fueled in part by three three-pointers from sophomore Emily Eastham.
  • Eleven second-quarter offensive rebounds helped push the Sabres' lead into double digits, but five unanswered Regent points cut it back to six, leaving the score 30-24 at halftime. 
  • Eastham led the way at the break with 14 points, four rebounds, and two steals.
  • After just one field goal in the first half, King ignited in the third quarter with 12 points. 
  • Eastham beat the buzzer with a jumper, pushing the score to 50-40 entering the fourth quarter.

Senior Chelsea King closed her Marian career with 21 points and four steals.
Sophomore Nyedeng Awak added nine points and 12 rebounds and averaged 10.3 boards over the final three games.
