ADRIAN, Mich. - Junior
Ella Spies and sophomore
Jillian Traver have each earned a spot on the All-NCHA team.
Traver (Beloit, Wis.) had a stellar season in goal to become the fourth goaltender in program history to earn All-NCHA honors. Her historic season saw her set a Marian single-season record for wins (11), tie a single-season record for shutouts (4), and finish with the second-best goals-against average in a single season in Marian history (2.34). She had a save percentage of .918 on the campaign that was also good to tie her for eighth in Marian single-season records. Traver had at least 30 saves in seven games with a season-high of 44 coming in the finale of the regular season against No. 10/12 Concordia Wisconsin. She also helped lead Marian to its first victory over a nationally-ranked opponent making 37 saves in an overtime victory at No. 6/6 St. Norbert. That led Traver to the first of her two NCHA Star of the Week awards with the second coming after back-to-back shutouts against Trine. After just 25 career games, Traver finds herself third all-time for wins (12), seventh for saves (683), and tied for second for shutouts (5).
Spies (Fond du Lac, Wis.) had a breakout season scoring to become the second defenseman in program history to earn All-NCHA recognition. She finished the campaign second on the team with her 19 points coming from seven goals and 12 assists. Her 19 points were the seventh-most for a single season in Marian history with her 12 helpers tying her for second in the Marian single-season records. Among all skaters in the NCHA, Spies ranked 20th for points and 16th for assists. Spies had five multi-point games during the season including in game two of the NCHA Slaats Cup Quarterfinals where she had a goal and an assist. Her efforts helped lead Marian to its first postseason victory in program history. In a non-conference series against MSOE, Spies opened the second half of the season with a four-point weekend to earn an NCHA Star of the Week award. Spies also netted the game-winning goal in overtime at No. 6/6 St. Nobert to give Marian its first victory over a nationally-ranked opponent.
The duo become the first teammates to earn All-NCHA recognition since the 2014-15 season when Sarah Bier and Amanda Waigand were honored.
