Marian men's volleyball takes a set from Benedictine and No. 11 Loras

FOND DU LAC - Marian University men's volleyball (4-13, 0-5 NACC) was defeated in four sets by Benedictine and No. 11 Loras as part of a home triangular.

VS. BENEDICTINE (19-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-14)
  • Marian opened the match with a slim 10-9 lead before going on a 10-5 run to lead by six.
  • The Sabres scored three unanswered points shortly after and eventually took the opening set.
  • The second set was close to start as well with Benedictine leading 8-7 before scoring eight of the next nine points to build a comfortable eight-point lead.
  • The Eagles then ended th set coring five of the final seven points.
  • Marian trailed 7-6 to start the third before Benedictine gradually pulled away and eventually led 20-12.
  • Marian was able to build momentum cutting its deficit to five before Benedictine took a 2-1 lead.
  • The Sabres trailed just 17-14 late in the fourth but Benedictine went on to score the next eight points unanswered to finish the match.
VS. LORAS (25-23, 21-25, 25-18, 25-12)
  • The two sides battled to open the match with Loras holding a 15-14 lead.
  • The Duhawks were able to pull away for a bit only for the Sabres to rally and trail 22-21.
  • Loras scored the next two points but Marian continued to battle fighting off the first two set-point chances.
  • A service error for the Sabres ended the comeback, however.
  • The second set was just as tight opening with a 17-17 stalemate.
  • The Sabres then went on a 5-1 run to lead 22-18.
  • The two sides could only trade points the rest of the way to allow Marian to even the sets.
  • Marian only trailed 15-13 to start the third, but Loras went on an 8-2 run to pull away and take a 2-1 lead.
  • The fourth set started competitive as well with Marian only trailing 14-10.
  • Loras responded closing the match with an 11-2 run.

VS. BENEDICTINE
  • Benedictine held a slim 54-50 edge for kills and 54-48 advantage for digs.
  • The Eagle block produced eight blocks to only two for the Sabres.
  • Marian was able to record four service aces.
  • This was the first match Marian dropped this season after winning the first set.
  • The Sabres are winless in 14 matches against Benedictine.
VS. LORAS
  • Loras had a 52-48 edge for kills but it was Marian with an advantage in digs at a 49-45 clip.
  • The Duhawk block played a key factor finishing with 12 total blocks.
  • Marian hit .318 with 28 kills over the course of the first two sets.
  • The Sabres are 3-7 all-time against Loras having dropped the last six meetings.

Senior Trent Goo Sun had 17 kills in each match and posted 17 digs against Benedictine for his fifth double-double this season.
Sophomore Giancarlo Bou had 43 assists in each match.
Senior CJ Kendrick had a match-high 15 digs against Loras.
