Marian softball rebounds to split twinbill with CUC

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RIVER FOREST, Ill. - Marian University softball (9-9, 6-2 NACC) bounced back from an 8-0 shutout in game one to earn a 5-2 win over the Cougars in game two.

GAME 1 
  • The Cougars plated one run in the first and added three in the second to take an early 4-0 lead. 
  • With the bases loaded, Concordia Chicago's Emily Garcia delivered a three-run double to left field. 
  • Marian managed two of their four hits in the fourth, but senior Ariana Schliepp was caught stealing third to halt the Sabres' scoring opportunity. 
  • An unearned run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth gave the Cougars enough to secure a five-inning victory in game one. 
GAME 2 
  • Junior Sabrina Di Vito allowed just one hit over the first three innings, but it wasn't until the fourth that junior Mackenzie Christofferson drove in senior Hope Matta to get the Sabres on the board.
  • In the fifth, Matta tripled to right field to drive in sophomore Aubrey Bender and extend the Sabres' lead to three. 
  • Senior Alexa Paulsberg homered for the second time in her Marian career, as the Sabres added two more runs in the sixth.
  • The Cougars scored twice in the seventh to mount a late comeback attempt, but Marian held on to win 5-2.

GAME 1
  • Marian was shut out for just the second time this season. 
  • The Sabres were outhit, 8-4.
  • Both teams committed an error, but Marian's resulted in an unearned run. 
GAME 2
  • Paulsberg hit the Sabres' third home run of the season, while Matta recorded the team's fourth triple. 
  • Marian narrowly outhit Concordia Chicago, 8-7.
  • Each team committed two errors, and the Sabres capitalized with two unearned runs in the fifth, 
  • Marian leads the all-time series against Concordia Chicago, 25-16.
