FIELD HOCKEY SENDS OFF INAUGURAL CLASS IN STYLE
The 2025 season for Marian University field hockey was a record-setting campaign and the perfect way to send off the inaugural recruiting class for the program.
Marian set a program record for wins going 11-6 on the season marking the first double-digit win season for the Sabres. The Sabres opened the season 6-0 marking the longest winning streak in program history. In that span, the Sabres outscored their opponents 25-4 and didn't allow multiple goals once. Marian did have a pair of overtime victories defeating Kenyon and Nazareth.
After dropping the next three games, Marian bounced back defeating Centre 3-2 in overtime at home for the first victory over the Colonels in program history. The overtime streak would continue for Marian as the Sabres defeated Virginia Wesleyan 1-0 in double overtime the next weekend. Marian dropped the next two games but closed out the regular season with back-to-back wins including a 4-0 shutout of Concordia Wisconsin.
Marian was also able to go 3-2 in conference play to earn the No. 3 seed for the Collegiate Field Hockey Conference Tournament (CFHC), its highest seeding in the CFHC era. The good times kept on rolling in the conference tournament as Marian opened the postseason with a 3-0 win over CUW, the first postseason victory in program history. In a thriller against Rhodes in the CFHC Tournament Semifinals, Marian dropped a nail-biting 2-0 game.
The Sabres saw three student-athletes earn all-conference recognition highlighted by
Jikke Biemans who was named a First Team selection. Joining her was
Angelene Castro and
Charlotte Touw who were each named Second Team All-CFHC with Touw also being named the CFHC Newcomer of the Year.
The Sabres saw five student-athletes play their final games in a Marian uniform in Biemans,
Allyson Nichols,
Maggie Volkmar,
Merel Nagelkerke, and
Macenzie Rosenberger. All five student-athletes were part of the inaugural recruiting class and played a pivotal role in establishing the Marian field hockey program.
