(Stevens Point, WI) - UW-Stevens Point scored four goals in the second period on Saturday en route to a 6-2 victory over Marian University. The Pointers outshot the Sabres 33-18 in the contest to aid in the nonconference victory.
The Pointers scored in the eighth and sixteenth minutes of the first period to build a 2-0 lead heading into the second period. In the second, they scored a shorthanded goal to take a 3-0 lead just :28 into the period. UWSP scored at the 3:24 mark and added a power play goal at the 7:56 mark to grab a commanding 5-0 lead.
Marian's Ryan Hitchcock (Butte, MT) put the Sabres on the board with a power play goal at the 14:19 mark. Lane Boswell (Calgary, AB) and Brian Pierpont (Superior, WI) were credited with helpers on the goal. The Pointers added a goal just over a minute later to make it 6-1 heading into the final period.
In the third, Nick Cinquegrani (Rolling Meadows, IL) added a power play goal with just :24 remaining to close out the scoring. Tommy Fitzpatrick (Ft. McMurray, AB) and Nathan Brummitt (Calgary, AB) recorded assists on Cinquegrani's goal.
Marian now has off until Saturday, January 2nd, as they will host Gustavus Adolphus College.
