Box Score (Madison, WI) - Edgewood College erased an eight-point halftime deficit and defeated Marian University 61-58 on Tuesday evening at the Todd Wehr Edgedome. It was both teams conference opener. Edgewood is now 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference, while Marian is 3-5 and 0-1 in the NAC.
The Eagles led 21-18 with 8:03 to play in the first, but Marian went on an 18-7 run to finish the half and took a 36-28 lead going into the locker room.
The Eagles opened the second on a 9-0 run to take the lead. Neither team held a lead larger than three points until the Eagles took a five-point lead with :11 to play. Marian's Kevin Hudak (Ashwaubenon, WI) hit a three with :04 left, to cut it to two, but the Eagles hit a free throw and a last-second heave by the Sabres was no good.
Marian shot 25-for-61 (41%) from the field, while Edgewood shot 20-for-49 (41%). The Eagles had a 36-32 advantage on the boards.
Marian was led by Hudak's 21 points and 8 assists. Logan Rankin (Algoma, WI) recorded 18 points, while Colin Lohenry (Algoma, WI) led the Sabres with 8 rebounds.
Marian is back in action again on Saturday, as they will host Dominican University at 4:15 PM.
