Sabres give Titans all they can handle

Box Score (Fond du Lac, WI) - Marian University had chances down the stretch, but just didn't have enough on Wednesday evening as they fell 69-63 to UW-Oshkosh at Sadoff Gymnasium. Marian (4-7) tied the game at 61-61 with 3:13 to play in the game, but missed three free throws in a row, which allowed the Titans (6-5) to build a four-point lead and they never relinquished that lead.

The Titans led most of the first half and built a 37-31 lead at halftime thanks to 58% shooting in the half. Marian shot well from the field also, as they shot 45%. The Titans biggest lead in the half was ten points.

Logan Rankin (Algoma, WI) led the Sabres with 8 points in the half, while D.J. Marsh led the Titans with 11 points.

In the second, the Sabres cut the deficit to 45-44 with 12:00 to play and were able to grab a 51-49 lead with 9:07 to play as Bryan Ashbeck (Wabeno, WI) hit three free throws after he was fouled shooting a three-pointer.

From that point, there were four ties and three lead changes. Kevin Hudak (Ashwaubenon, WI) hit a jumper with 6:04 to play to give Marian it's last lead of the game. Marsh would go on to score the Titans next six points and they led 61-57 with 4:07 to play. Rankin then answered that with two straight hoops to tie it up at 61-61 with 3:13 to play.

Marsh fouled out with 2:47 to play, but the Titans came up with a big steal which turned into a three-point play, the conventional way, to take a 64-61 lead with 1:48 to play. Marian missed a few chances late and the Titans ended up taking a 69-61 lead before Ashbeck closed the scoring out with two late free throws.

Rankin was the only Sabre in double-digits, as he finished with 20 points. He also led the team with 6 rebounds. Ashbeck finished with 9 points. Hudak led the team with 5 assists.

Marsh led the Titans with 25 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists.
