MEN'S BASKETBALL REACHES NACC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP
An improbable postseason run saw the Marian University men's basketball reach the NACC Tournament Championship game.
Marian entered the NACC Tournament as the No. 5 seed and opened its postseason against the fourth-seeded Concordia Wisconsin Falcons. Despite the Falcons defeating Marian twice in the regular season, the Sabres were easily able to cruise to a 20-point road win. The Sabres were especially paced by a defense that held CUW to 11 points in the first half off of 3-of-22 (.136) shooting. Senior
Derek Lindert paced the way for the offense finishing with a game-high 27 points.

This earned Marian a crack at the top-seed for the tournament, the MSOE Raiders. Similarly to the CUW match-up, Marian was an under dog after falling to the Raiders 85-81 in overtime at home during the regular season. Marian opened with a one-point lead in the first 10 minutes, but MSOE was able to finish the half strong and led 44-36 at the break. The Sabres came out strong to begin the second half using a 17-6 spurt to retake the lead. The two squads traded leads for most of the second half until a run of nine straight Marian points put the Sabres ahead by eight with 4:08 left to play. MSOE was able to trim their deficit down to as little as three with 2:43 on the clock, but Marian quickly scored the next 10 points to cruise to a second straight upset.
After an upset in the other NACC Tournament semifinal, Marian found itself on the road at the No. 3 seed Aurora. Marian was also making a bid to become just the third team to win three NACC Tournament games on the road; 2008 Lakeland and 2022 Marian. Just like the first two games of the postseason, Marian was fighting a battle against a team that had defeated them in the regular season. Marian once again found itself trailing at halftime by a deficit of nine points. As they had the entire postseason, Marian persevered through it and managed to tie the game at 46-46 shortly into the second half. It was a nail biter through the final 14:30 of action with the Spartans eventually besting Marian by just one point to earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
