(Fond du Lac, WI) - Marian University shot 29-for-59 (49%) from the floor on Saturday and defeated Benedictine University 76-62. With the victory, the Sabres snapped a three-game losing streak and moved to 5-8 and 2-3 in the Northern Athletics Conference.
Much of the first half went back-and-forth until the 6:29 mark. From that point on, the Sabres erased a one-point deficit as they closed the half on a 13-2 run to take a 32-25 lead into the break. Logan Rankin (Algoma, WI) poured in six points during the run.
The Sabres stayed hot in the second half, as they built a double-digit lead early. They built a 48-32 lead with 14:29 to play, but the Eagles (8-5, 2-3 NAC) were able to claw back and cut the deficit to 48-41 with 12:21 to play. Marian was able to build the lead to double-digits soon after and the Eagles never really threatened again.
Rankin led the balanced scoring attack with 22 points. Kevin Hudak (Ashwaubenon, WI) had a solid game with 16 points and 4 assists, while Bryan Ashbeck (Wabeno, WI) added 10 points.
Josh Washington (Milwaukee, WI) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, while Rankin and Colin Lohenry (Algoma, WI) added 6 boards.
The Sabres committed just 11 turnovers and held a 39-35 advantage on the boards.
Nate Green led the Eagles with 21 points.
Marian is back in action again on Wednesday, as they will host Lakeland College. Action is set to begin at 7:00 PM.
