(Watertown, WI) - Marian University moved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the NAC on Tuesday as they defeated Maranatha Baptist 67-64. The Sabres led 58-37 with just over eight minutes left, but struggled down the stretch. However, they were able to hang on and give the progam its best start since the 1993-1994 season. That team started out 7-0.
The Sabres shot 50% (15-for-30) in the first half and took a 39-33 lead into the break.
Brooke Haen (Oakfield, WI) had a big half, pouring in 13 points. 18 of Marian's 39 points in the first came from the bench.
In the second, the Sabres continued to expand their lead to 21, but the Crusaders battled back and had the ball with a chance to tie the game, but the Marian defense was able to come away with a stop.
Marian shot 39.6 (21-for-53) from the field and was out-rebounded 44-33 in the game. Both teams combined for 58 turnovers in the game.
Haen led all scorers with 22 points including connecting on five 3-pointers.
Elizabeth Zutz (Valders, WI) poured in 19 points and 13 rebounds off the bench, while
Alexis Becker (North Fond du Lac, WI) added 17 points.
Kristin Morrison led Maranatha with 19 points.
Marian is back in action on Thursday, as they will play at Edgewood College.
