(Fond du Lac, WI) - Aurora University won a pair of games at Herr-Baker Field on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning and went on to win game one 8-4. In game two, they led throughout and took the contest 11-4.
The Spartans scored solo runs in the second and fifth innings to take a 2-0 lead. Marian evened things up in the sixth inning as
Tim Holtz (Oshkosh, WI) and
Jace Unrein (Racine, WI) each had RBI doubles.
Aurora came right back in the top of the seventh as they scored three times on just one hit. The Sabres committed three errors in the inning.
The Spartans plated three more runs in the ninth. Marian scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to close out the scoring.
Josh Klismith (Stevens Point, WI), Phil Seis (Antigo, WI), and Unrein led the offense with two hits apiece.
Mitchell Gardner (Sheboygan, WI) took the loss. He gave up just two earned runs in his 6.2 innings.
The Spartans out-hit Marian 11-9 and took advantage of Marian's seven errors.
In game two, the Spartans scored three times in the first and never trailed. They scored two times in the fourth, fifth, seventh, and ninth innings. Marian scored three times in the seventh and added one more in the ninth.
Anthony Porcaro (Burlington, WI) had three hits for the Sabres, while
Eric Weber (Mt. Calvary, WI) recorded a pair of hits.
Marian is now 5-14 overall and 3-4 in the NAC.
