(Watertown, WI) - Marian University ran their winning streak to eight games on Saturday afternoon as they won their first two Northern Athletics Conference games at Marantha Baptist. The Sabres won game one 17-0 in five innings and game two 14-1 in five innings. Marian is now 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the NAC.
Marian out-hit the Crusaders 17-2 in the opener and broke a 5-0 lead open in the second with eleven runs. They added a run in the fourth inning to close out the scoring.
Brooke Haen (Oakfield, WI) led the Sabres going 3-for-4 at the plate.
Emilie Jansen (Kaukauna, WI), Emily Wiesman (Sheboygan, WI), Maria Archie (Madison, WI), Ashley Engler (Waterford, WI), Jenna Whitehead (Kimberly, WI), and
Emily Boehnlein (St. Cloud, WI) all had two hits for the Sabres.
Engler and Boehnlein homered in the contest.
Engler drove in four runs, while Wiesman drove in three. Archie,
Jenna Whitehead, and Boehnlein all drove in a pair.
Amy Malcore (Luxemburg, WI) scored three times for Marian.
Jamie Whitehead (Kimberly, WI) picked up the victory. She struck out three in her three innings of work.
Emily Turba (Wisconsin Rapids, WI) struck out four in her two innings of work.
In game two, Marian scored in every inning and out-hit the Crusaders 16-2.
Archie had three hits, while
Jenna Whitehead, Haen,
Rachel Mullendore (Amery, WI), and
Hillary Kammerzelt (Glenbeulah, WI) all had a pair of hits.
Haen drove in three runs, while Boehnlein, Mullendore, and Kammerzelt all drove in a pair.
Kristin Rose (Brownsville, WI) picked up the victory going three innings. She fanned five batters.
Cherise Waltz (South Byron, WI) also recorded five strikeouts in her two innings of work.
Marian is back in action again on Monday, as they will host Lakeland College. First pitch is set for 5:00 PM.
